February 27 - March 6, 2010
Roatan, Honduras
As the ladies of this group began praying for what God’s purpose of this trip would be to minister to the women of Roatan, He laid upon all our hearts to develop a four-day Bible study to disciple to these ladies.  Many trips have been made to Roatan and the majority of the people of Roatan have heard the plan of salvation and have had the opportunity to accept. We prayed for at least 12 women (6 in the morning and 6 in the afternoon) to disciple, but God sent us 21 women to disciple.  These 21 women were faithful in their attendance and faithful in their participation.  This was evident at the end of the week when ALL the women could recant portions of the Bible study during a review session.  God knew who to send.  One lady even stated that she was “eating this up” (as translated in Spanish).  What she really meant was that she was soaking all this in.  What a testimony that we were teaching the right subjects that God had laid on our hearts.
Because we wanted these ladies to feel special (which is not something they encounter very often due to the nature of their culture), a luncheon at the end of the week was held in their honor.  Earlier in the week each lady and their children made placemats.  These placemats decorated the tables during the luncheon.  A special meal of quiche, homemade raisin bread, and large grapes was served by us to each lady and the children.  This was a special treat for the ladies and the children as grapes are usually only served at Christmas time.  ~Jamie Sprague

God provided the following through the gifts of a prayer packet: 1) Childrens music CD. - IN SPANISH - when I brought the CD player but forgot the CD.   2) childs coloring book of jelly beans with a Christian theme on the same day that Jamie used jelly beans to share the plan of salvation with children. 3) a woman’s daily prayer journal when we needed just one more to meet the number of women attending for that day.  All of these were sent by my daughter who had never participated in sending prayer packets. She had no idea of the needs of our team when she compiled the packet. God did it. He insured that our needs were met in every way. ~Myra Brock

It was awesome to see how God’s Word became alive for the women in the Roatan Bible Study.  They really understood that His Word can make a difference in their lives.  They wanted to have better relationships with their husbands.  They understood how important Christian friends are and how they can encourage each other.  It was such a joy to see the excitement on their faces every day they came.  The ladies showed their trust in us as they shared special prayer requests.  Seeing them learn and in turn teach others was our mission, and  I believe God will honor that, and continue to work in their lives. Christian Mothers teaching children is what will change their culture.
Gustavo was a 12 year old who became a Christian on our last trip.  He came to the Inn to see us when he found out we were back in Roatan.  We gave him a Spanish/English Bible, and the next day he brought two friends with him and asked for a Bible for them.  This is discipling!  God is so good, and we are so privileged to be used by Him.  Please pray for Frances Zittrower.  She has been VERY ill.  She is improving, but still needs prayer.  Thank you and God bless. ~Liz Scott

On February 27th I went to Roatan with Steve and his team of "Seasoned Adults" for a mission trip.  However, the next day I traveled by ferry to the mainland where I met Frank and Phoebe Harrisons – missionaries who teach Pastors of Honduras evangelism and church growth.   My mission was to teach the leaders of “Iglesia Bautista Mi Redentor” how to learn to tell 23 bible stories (in Spanish) that depict the entire gospel and God’s plan for our lives. Pastor Vairon and his wife Leskia would also attend. Classes would be held Monday - Friday for three hour every evening (Monday through Friday) starting at 6:00 P.M. and I was to recite 4 bible stories in Spanish every night so that the students could learn to do the same. Prior to leaving the states, I had spent many hours learning the stories in a way that could be recited. I used my gift of organization to break down the stories on index cards in an outline format. But now here I was in a strange land…..I felt like Moses when he was chosen to speak to the Israelites and lead them out of Egypt. My Spanish is not very good, and I am not an evening person, and I truly am not a teacher, and where was my “Aaron”? But God reassured me that very moment that HE HAD A PLAN. As a seasoned adult I knew that it would be ok in spite of all my handicaps.
By the end of the week all eleven students had several experiences sharing the stories from memory with class members and with others outside of the class room. Each student had a specific purpose for learning the stories and how they were going to use it in the future. Most of the purposes were evangelistic but some were for the purpose of discipleship. They also shared what they felt led to do with the stories in the coming months. I was humbled to by the way the Pastor Vairon and his wife attended each and every class. They were excellent students and their enthusiasm was contagious.  The next week, I took the ferry back to Roatan. During the first three mission trips to Roatan, I felt that the mission was to “go tell it on the mountain.” However, this week in Roatan, I believe that God placed a new mission in my heart. Deuteronomy 11:18–19 “Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your head, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”   These verses were part of the first story that I learned for Bonito Oriental. Since now I was visiting people that I had already shared the Lord with, I used these verses to exhort them to allow God’s word to be part of their lives and those of their children.  "The Parable of the Sower" came alive that week.   It was obvious that some of the people we followed up maintained their old life styles of living for their own honor, others demonstrated some changes in their lives, and others are now serving the Lord in all things. Once again I was able to see God’s words as written in MATTHEW 13: 3–8.  This was my Fourth Mission Trip to Honduras and truly the most rewarding. The desire of my heart is to return to Bonito Oriental with Jerry to establish a visitation program for “Iglesia Bautista Mi Redentor” but only if it is in God’s Plan. The Harrisons’ have also suggested that we travel to San Pedro Sula and teach the stories to a church that he ministers to in that city. Please pray that the Lord will clearly direct our paths. Psalm 127:1 ~Lydia Allen
